Your Hosts
Mary and John were married in December, 2006, and live on the premises.
Mary was born in Ketchikan’s old hospital downtown which is now an apartment building. If you are traveling on the Alaska Marine Highway, you may see Mary onboard as the Chief Purser. From 1987-2001, Mary took winters off to teach high school mathematics in several Alaskan towns.
John is a boat millwright and spends most of his days restoring Alaskan boats.
Lucy is a Brittany-Blue Heeler mix and takes her job as official greeter quite seriously. She loves spending time with guests and anyone willing to throw a ball.
The new addition to the family is Smokey who is an indoor housecat. She also enjoys spending time with guests.

Description
A Place Apart is a chalet-style, non-smoking home featuring cedar ceilings crafted from local timber. A full wall rock fireplace constructed from hand-picked rock from a nearby rock quarry make this home especially cozy. Enjoy the water view of Vallenar Point from the house or from the large grassy front yard.
There are two rooms on the main floor each with a double bed, microwave and small refrigerator. They are located adjacent to the dining room and adjacent to a full bathroom. Upstairs is a room with a double bed and a day bed, microwave, refrigerator, and toaster oven, another full bathroom, and a single bed in the craft room for the budget conscious traveler (it too has a small refrigerator and microwave).
For a large group, rooms can be combined at a special discounted group rate. With a stay of seven nights or more and advance notice, the fifth bedroom is available upstairs. This room has a double bed.
Wireless internet access is also available as well as a gas BBQ grill.
A washer and dryer are available for guests to use. The chest freezer can hold a single day’s catch, but for longer stays it is best to arrange freezer space at the marinas.
Breakfast
A self-serve continental breakfast of juice, cold cereal, milk, fruit, English muffin, toast, muffin or bagel, coffee, tea, hot chocolate or cider is provided in the dining area.
Location
Located NORTH OF TOWN just before Milepost 12 North Tongass Hwy. about a 20-minute drive from the airport ferry parking lot (town side) and Alaska Marine Highway ferry and about 25 minutes from downtown Ketchikan. Since you are only two miles south of Knudson Cove Marina and Clover Pass Resort, this is a great location for fishermen.
The Union76 Gas Station and Store is located across the street. The Mecca Bar and Restaurant,and Lighthouse Grocery and Tesoro Gas Station are only minutes south of this B&B.

Pet Policy
This home does not allow pets, but you may adopt Lucy and Smokey while you are there.
Transportation Taxi cabs are available on the town side at the airport ferry dock and at the Alaska Marine Highway ferry terminal. To homes outside the city, it is usually better to rent a car. If you would like to rent a car, we recommend Alaska Car Rental. They have offices in town and at the airport. They offer courtesy transfers. The Bus operates three routes within the city limits and along Tongass Avenue as far South as Mile 4/Rotary Beach (GREEN LINE to RED LINE); and North to Mile 10/Totem Bight State Historical Park (BLUE LINE) Monday-Friday only. The fare is $1 (Adult) and $.50 (student 5 years and up) per person (exact change required in U.S. currency). No charge for immediate transfer to next bus. Deposit and Confirmations
Full payment is required on one and two night stays at the time the reservation is made. A minimum advance deposit of the first two nights paid in full or 50% of the total reservation is required on stays of three (3) nights or more. Upon receipt of your deposit, a confirmation will be sent by mail, fax or e-mail with your bed and breakfast or vacation rental information, map, directions, and travel insurance information. The balance due, if any, is payable to KRS 60 days prior to your scheduled arrival and can be paid by personal check, cashier's check, postal money order or a major credit card.
Cancellations and Refunds
We appreciate notification as early as possible if you need to cancel or change your reservation. All cancellations are subject to a processing fee of $25 plus tax. Cancellation penalties are as follows:
| Stays 1-6 nights: | Cancellations made prior to 30 days before the scheduled arrival date are entitled to a full refund less a $25 processing fee. There are no refunds for cancellations made within 30 days of the scheduled arrival date. |
